Job Summary
A large Hospital system is seeking experienced Disaster Recovery Engineers to help build and mature a disaster recovery program from the ground up, with a primary focus on Tier‑0 foundational infrastructure. This role is engineering‑ and architecture‑focused, not documentation or analyst‑oriented.
Working within Infrastructure and partnering closely with Cybersecurity and application teams, the DR Engineer will assess the resiliency of core systems, identify gaps, and help engineer and design recovery approaches for critical services. This individual will play a key role as the organization progresses from assessment → remediation design → build‑out → testing/go‑live.
This is a highly impactful opportunity for an infrastructure‑focused engineer who understands how systems actually fail and recover, and who is excited to help establish long‑term DR capabilities in a large, complex healthcare environment.
Must Haves
- Proven experience as a Disaster Recovery Engineer, Infrastructure Engineer, Systems Engineer, or Platform Engineer with responsibility for DR or resiliency.
- Strong understanding of Tier‑0 infrastructure, including: AD/Entra, Identity Dependencies, DNS and core name-resolution services, core networking concepts, VMWare, etc
- Experience assessing infrastructure resiliency and recovery readiness, identifying real failure points, and contributing to engineered recovery solutions.
- Working knowledge of backup and recovery systems, including concepts around replication, restore, and recovery time objectives.
- Ability to partner with infrastructure, application, and security teams to identify gaps and design recovery approaches.
- Comfortable working in an evolving program where standards, tooling, and architecture are still being defined.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical recovery concepts to multiple stakeholders.
Plusses
- Experience with enterprise backup and DR tools, such as: Dell Avamar and/or Dell PowerProtect Data Manager (PPDM), Rubrik, Zerto, Commvault (Simpana), or similar platforms
- Understanding of storage platforms and how storage behavior impacts recovery.
- Network security exposure, including Palo Alto firewalls or equivalent technologies.
- VPN experience (F5 or other enterprise VPN solutions).
- Experience operating in healthcare or other regulated environments, where uptime and recovery are mission‑critical.
- Hands‑on experience contributing to DR architecture or remediation design, not just testing or documentation.
- Strong Visio diagramming skills to visually document architectures, dependencies, and recovery designs.
- Exposure to organizations with large, complex environments and many interdependent systems.
