Job Title: Senior Manager – Software Asset Management (SAM)Location: Dallas, TX / RemoteDuration: 6 month contract with multiple extensionsRate: $55/hr. on W2
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Manager – Software Asset Management (SAM) to lead, advise, and manage the delivery of our client’s software asset management capabilities. This role combines the responsibilities of ensuring the smooth and reliable operation of the software service while also guiding the Software Asset Managers to better manage the capabilities and identify opportunities for improvements.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of software asset management lifecycles, IT service and asset management (ITSM and ITAM) leading practices. He or she will be a proactive problem-solver with excellent communication and leadership skills, capable of fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
Responsibilities
- Oversee end-to-end service delivery for Software Asset Management initiatives, ensuring alignment with ITIL processes.
- Partner with internal stakeholders (IT, Procurement, Finance, Compliance, Internal Audit) to ensure effective software license tracking, consumption, optimization, and compliance.
- Drive the future implementation of SAM tools in ServiceNow and processes, including integration with vendors for license consumptions.
- Monitor and report on license usage, audits, renewals, and compliance posture.
- Work with the Software Asset Managers to refine the current capabilities and prioritize features.
- Manage and optimize the software portfolio with focus on "big rock" publishers and licensing costs.
- Facilitate communication and collaboration between the development team, Product Owner, and stakeholders.
- Lead and coordinate effective audit defense strategies to minimize financial exposure and business disruption.
- Streamline software portfolio management processes to eliminate complexity and drive efficiency.
- Identify and execute strategic cost-saving opportunities through co-terming, license reclamation, and application rationalization.
- Establish a single point of contact approach for major software publishers to enhance relationship management.
- Develop a holistic view of software assets across all business towers.
- Drive continuous process improvements related to software asset management in collaboration with Governance Lead.
- Drive efficiency in software lifecycle management processes including end of life.
- Reduce complexity in software portfolio management.
Required Skills:
- 15+ Years of relevant experience (Bachelor’s Degree in applicable field may be substituted for 5 years of experience).
- 5+ years of experience in ITAM or IT operations.
- Relevant certifications (CSAM, CITAM, ITIL).
- Strong knowledge of Software Asset Management principles and lifecycle processes.
- Knowledge of software publisher-specific licensing programs and metrics.
- Experience working with ServiceNow, Flexera, or other SAM tools.
- Experience in vendor and contract management.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and organizational skills.
