**Title: Workday Product Owner (**Workday HCM Core certification is required)

Location: RemoteDuration: 6 months with potential for extension/conversionNotes from HM:

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a Product Owner within the Workday ecosystem, specifically aligned to Core HCM.
  • Partner closely with HR stakeholders to gather requirements, define product intent, and translate requirements into user stories.
  • Feed user stories into the development team, who will configure the system based on provided requirements.
  • Support ongoing and upcoming Workday initiatives, including geographic expansion, acquisition-related integrations, Workday Assistant, Workday Everywhere, and future 2026 initiatives such as talent modules.
  • Pick up in-flight initiatives and guide them to completion.
  • Scope and define work required for technical teams for new initiatives.
  • Participate in agile ceremonies and maintain cadence with virtual team meetings.
  • Collaborate with other Product Owners who each support different Workday modules.

Skills & Requirements:

  • Workday HCM Core certification is required.
  • At least four years of Workday ecosystem experience.
  • Experience working across multiple institutions with varied Workday configurations.
  • Strong ability to convert stakeholder requirements into actionable user stories.
  • Solid understanding of agile methodologies, ceremonies, and product owner responsibilities.
  • Ability to operate quickly without needing ramp-up time on agile processes.
  • Understanding of impact of Workday configuration on org structures, integrations, and geographic expansion.

Nice to Haves:

  • Experience with cross-module Workday initiatives such as compensation, payroll, time tracking, benefits, or future talent modules.
  • Background supporting Workday implementation or multi-institution configurations.
  • Hands-on configuration experience (not required for this role but helpful).

Experience:

  • Minimum four years in the Workday ecosystem.
  • At least one implementation or full lifecycle “go-around” as a product owner.
  • Comfortable functioning in a non-hands-on role, but with strong system knowledge.

Interview Process:

  • Fully virtual.
  • Expected to be one round, but Tracy will confirm.
  • Interviewers will be Tracy and one additional team member.
  • Hiring will begin immediately, and shortlisting will start Monday following the call.

Additional Notes:

  • No onsite requirement; all team ceremonies are on Teams.
  • Proximity to a Schwab office is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Team members primarily sit in Westlake and Lone Tree, but remote members are normal.
  • Contract may be extended or converted.

Q: Are there upcoming Workday releases, enhancements, or integration initiatives the Product Owner will support or lead?

A: Yes. Upcoming initiatives include geographic expansion, acquisition-related work, Workday Assistant, and Workday Everywhere. Some work is already in progress, and new initiatives will also begin.

Q: Beyond Core HCM, which Workday modules are in scope? Any cross-module projects?

A: Modules may include compensation, payroll, time tracking, and benefits. Talent is expected for 2026. Recruiting and reporting are not in scope.

Q: What qualities or background matter most for this role?

A: Candidates with hands-on Workday configuration experience tend to be more successful, even though this role is not hands-on. Also important is strong product owner experience and familiarity with agile processes.

Your Opportunity

As a Workday Product Owner, you will play a key role in transforming how we deliver value to our employees and business partners. You will be responsible for executing the vision, roadmap, and delivery of Workday capabilities and optimization efforts related to various modules in Workday including Core HCM, and other modules as required. You’ll partner closely with HR leadership, client’s Technology Services, and business stakeholders to ensure our Workday solution supports HR strategies, enhances the employee experience, and scales with the organization’s growth. While this role leverages your technical Workday expertise, it offers the opportunity to focus on strategic impact rather than hands-on development or configuration within Workday.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to a high-performing team of HR product managers, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Execute the product strategy & roadmap for Workday’s Core HCM Module. Work can also span across capabilities such as time and attendance, payroll, benefits, or advanced compensation.
  • Translate complex business needs into actionable deliverables, including technical specifications, epics, and user stories for agile development teams.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Total Rewards and client’s Technology Services to design and maintain seamless integrations with downstream systems, ensuring data integrity.
  • Stay abreast of Workday releases and feature previews, proactively assessing impact and championing the adoption of relevant enhancements.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by analyzing system performance, gathering user feedback, and optimizing process efficiency.
  • Serve as the primary subject matter expert (SME) and escalation point for all Workday Compensation-related issues.

What You HaveRequired Qualifications:

  • 4 years of technical Workday expertise with HCM, including core functions such as managing personal data, organization structure, business processes, and security.
  • Proven success as a Product Owner for technology solutions.
  • Experience working on product roadmaps, prioritization frameworks, and in agile delivery practices.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, HR Technology, or related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven success aligning product strategy with HR technology and business needs.
  • Deep understanding of HR processes and experience delivering Workday-based solutions.
  • Ability to navigate complex organizational changes and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Workday integration hands-on experience a plus.
